The simplest way to import a bill of materials is the CAD import. It is an Excel-based import, which will also create part numbers out of a template if they don’t yet exist in the database.

Leveraging the EDI configuration, it is also possible to import the entire structure, including routing. This is a more complex process.

CAD software

Under the section Engineering in Product settings, make sure a CAD software is selected. If you want to configure your own import, make sure to pick Other CAD software.

BOM properties

In the program Manage design software properties, match the attributes of bill of materials corresponding to the columns of your Excel spreadsheet.

The example configuration below will the attached Excel spreadsheet:

Import processing

Go to Import structure from CAD, and select the appropriate options:

  • Final product template

  • Component template

  • Structure code
